There is masses to do and see in the locality. It almost goes without saying that this part of France boasts some of the best restaurants in the world and with Cognac, Bordeaux and St Emillion just down the road one can enjoy the most superb meals at a very reasonable price. There is more good food and wine to be found in the excellent markets which are worth going to just for the atmosphere. There are plenty of chateaux, vineyards and historical sites to visit. Locally available sporting activities include tennis, golf, canoeing (great fun!), fishing swimming and riding. The owners have a very comprehensive house book that lists everything.Activities near by include: Fishing, Canoeing, Golf, Horse riding, Swimming, Tennis.


Local Areas of Interest:

1. Aubeterre sur Dronne (12 miles)

Aubeterre sur Dronne is located in southern Charente, close to the Perigord. A very popular tourist attraction, this picturesque village is situated high up above a bend in the river Dronne. Office de Tourisme du Pays d'Aubeterre, Place du Château, 16390 Aubeterre sur Dronne. Recognised for being one of the prettiest villages in France, Aubeterre sur Dronne offers narrow winding streets and ancient buildings to explore, several cafes and good restaurants.  Large car park next to the Information Bureau.

One of the most impressive sights in Aubeterre is the monolithic church of Saint Jean, which is situated underground of a cliff that hangs over the river Dronne. The church is carved entirely out of the rock and at its highest point measures 20m. Other interesting historical sites include St Jacques Church, located at the top of the village. Partially destroyed by war in 1562, the church was later rebuilt in the 17th century. It boasts a stunning 12th century Romanesque façade that is decorated with finely sculpted arches.

2. River Beach Resort at Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (12.1 miles)

Beautiful sandy beach resort with cafe, toilets, boating. At the beach resort at Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, there are various activities available to you:

Golf: a 9 hole course at the Manoir de Longeveau at Pillac. If you need it, equipment can be hired.

Fishing: Mostly you will find zander, trout and carp in the area. You will need a fishing permit which is available from the grocery shop ‘Vival’, in Aubeterre.

Swimming: You will enjoy relaxing and sunbathing on the sandy river beach, going for a swim, having a little snack or drink at the snack bar which is situated on the Dronne at Aubeterre, near the campsite on the route of Ribérac. From the 15th July to the 20th August swimming is supervised.

3. Château de Bourdeilles (15.2 miles)

The Château de Bourdeilles is a château located in the commune of Bourdeilles in the Dordogne département in France. Closed for first three weeks of January and Tuesdays in the off season. The Château de Bourdeilles is a furnished example of a feudal fortress and Renaissance palace and is well worth a visit for lovers of art and history alike. Two castles, one medieval and one renaissance, stand on the same site, built on a rampart overlooking the river Dronne. The Furniture dates back to 15th and 19th Century.
